We hosted an in-person event in 4 participating cities across Canada – London, Toronto, Regina and Winnipeg – over the lunch hour on Thursday, June 16. This event supported mental health for all people in Canada through a donation to CMHA, National and now the poses are available to everyone.

What it’s about

A recent survey by Mental Health Research Canada (2022) revealed 35% of all people working in Canada reported experiencing burnout – with some professions, like nursing, reporting up to 66%.  

Workplace Strategies for Mental Health has always focused on helping employers and employees to reduce workplace stress and improve mental health. One way to do this is to take our breaks every day,and spend that time calming our minds and relaxing our bodies. Yoga has the potential to do this.

Master yoga instructors certified with YogaFit Canada will guide you through a series of poses geared to relaxation. No prior knowledge or experience is required*. You can see some key poses from the session below. Click the text below each pose to view a larger image.

 

As part of this event, Canada Life donated $15,000, to the Canadian Mental Health Association in support of mental health for all.

Winnipeg: April Baker 

April is a Senior Master Trainer with YogaFit Worldwide and a Canfitpro Personal Trainer. She has been working in the fitness industry since 2005. April is passionate about creating an inclusive environment for people to participate in yoga and fitness in a way that supports each person’s individual needs, and strives to achieve this in every class. 

Toronto: Gwendolyn Elliott 

Gwendolyn is a fitness, yoga and meditation teacher with a passion for making well-being FUN! Her latest journey is working to become a yoga therapist with a special focus on day hospice programs. When she isn't on her yoga mat, you'll find her teaching her old dog new tricks, drinking coffee or hiking.

Regina: Andrea Vogel 

Yoga Fit Worldwide

Andie has been involved in the Group Fitness industry for over 25 years. Also certified as a Personal Trainer, she has trained clients and instructed group fitness classes in a variety of environments including locally owned gyms, the YMCA, community organizations, private companies and City Wellness programs. She recently completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and her 100-hour Warrior Yoga Teacher Training through Yogafit Worldwide and is a member of YogaAlliance. Andie believes that optimal health and wellness include a well- rounded fitness regime with physical fitness and athletic-based programs, combined with mental health and therapeutic programs, delivered in a safe, accessible and adaptable way to all persons of all levels of fitness.

London: Christine Yanke

Christine is a Senior Master trainer for YogaFit and specializes in trauma-informed yoga. She is a mental health advocate, co-author of published clinical research gathered on yoga intervention for women with substance abuse disorder in a residential treatment program, and was the Community Champion spokesperson for the 2021 Run for Women, which took place in 18 cities across Canada. Christine has been a keynote speaker in mental health conferences, hospitals, addiction facilities, yoga studios, and universities, openly sharing her story of resilience.  She has also been a mentor to many in the field of addiction and recovery.
